Hawken School is seeking a candidate who will develop and manage strength and conditioning programs for the High School Physical Education Department and Athletic Teams. We have a state-of-the-art athletic facilities, including a large, well-equipped weight room, an eight-lane pool, and many other areas for training and activity. The Director of Strength and Conditioning, Director of Athletics, Physical Education Department Chair, and the Athletic Trainer will work in partnership on designing new structures and curricula for multiple facets of health and wellness at Hawken, all fully aligned with our forward-focused mission.
Design and teach both individualized programs and classes in Physical Education
Provide students with a foundation in Health and Wellness through both experiential learning and innovative lesson-plans
Embrace a collaborative department culture to support new curricular initiatives in both Physical Education and Health and Wellness
Design, implement, and supervise Strength and Conditioning Programs
Enthusiastically partner with varsity and sub-varsity coaches to improve strength and conditioning of athletes in and outside of the fitness room.
Collaborate with our Athletic Director and head coaches to assess needs and plan strength and conditioning programs
Provide valuable leadership as Hawken seeks to broaden opportunities for community engagement through health and wellness initiatives aimed at both students and adults
Ensure student access to safe, productive, and high functioning training opportunities
Partnership with the Athletic Trainer and injured students in design and oversight of rehabilitation programs
Manage and supervise day-to-day operations of our fitness facilities
Advise 10-12 students
Oversee community health and wellness initiatives and programs
Actively engage in school life and other duties as assigned

Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science or similar field, and National Strength and Conditioning Association certification required. The successful candidate must be a CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) from the NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) or have certification from ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine). Three to five years of experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to successfully implement a strength and conditioning program for both girls and boys in a high school setting
Strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of lifting
Experience working in the classroom and/or group fitness class instruction
Desire and willingness to try new approaches, embracing a growth mindset for yourself and for students
Deep understanding of adolescence and a passion for working with teens as they face the complex issues of today's world
Flexibility, energy, and a commitment to working actively with students both individually and in groups
