The Walker Middle School is seeking a highly skilled, dedicated, and experienced Life Science teacher to join a dynamic Science Department for the 2018-2019 academic year. The ideal candidate is one who uses developmentally appropriate pedagogy to fully engage students at all levels in the excitement of hands-on science and encourages problem solving, critical thinking, and collaboration. Preference will be given to candidates interested in contributing to the full life of the school through leading an extracurricular Middle School STEM club.
Teach 5 sections of Middle School science with a focus on Life Science and Physical Science
Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise curriculum for said courses
Conduct administrative tasks relevant to these classes – including but not limited to working with students during tutorial, maintaining student grades, working with the Department Chair and Grade Level Dean, and communicating with students and parents in a timely, constructive manner
Serve as a student advisor
Participate in the professional life of the school by attending meetings and carrying out other duties as directed
Engage in the life of the school community outside of the classroom
Actively participate in the school’s mission to create and maintain a caring and diverse community where meaningful relationships inspire transformative learning
Previous Middle School Science teaching experience preferred
Mastery of a wide range of developmentally appropriate teaching strategies to engage and challenge all learners
Exceptional collaborative skills to maximize vertical science curriculum alignment and interdepartmental connections to involve Middle School students in authentic inquiry learning
Clear communication skills to build and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators
Demonstrate a growth mindset by seeking out opportunities for professional growth to remain current in curricular, technological, and pedagogical technique
Use technology in meaningful and appropriate ways in and out of the classroom
Utilize feedback regarding teaching and learning from Department Chair and colleagues
Salary is dependent upon experience and commensurate with other independent schools in the area.
