The Bolles School, a Northeast Florida independent college preparatory day and boarding school founded in 1933 and regarded as one of the top educational institutions in the country, currently seeks a highly specialized practitioner to serve as our Director of Student Wellness Services. This is a 12-month Administrative position. The successful candidate will ideally start Summer of 2018.
Position Purpose: Responsible for the overall coordination, oversight, and monitoring of our school-wide approach to student health and wellness support services and programs for 1,700 students PreK through 12th grade.
This new position examines the intersections of physical, mental-emotional, and social health in student development and well-being and promotes best practices in student health and wellness education.
Create a comprehensive approach, timeline, and budget for student wellness work at Bolles to include benchmark data and metrics for successful implementation
Advocate for and advise on healthy, sustainable practices and policies throughout all areas of the school
Teach health and wellness classes as appropriate; topics to be taught might include (but are not limited to) healthy relationships, alcohol and other drugs, body image, nutrition, mental health, human sexuality, anxiety and stress management, and other social/emotional elements of health and wellness
In partnership and coordination with school counselors, athletics department, Learning Services, and other members, chair an all-school committee to review, expand, and update comprehensive PreK-12 Health and Wellness Curriculum
Coordinate with Campus Heads (Lower, Middle, and Upper School) on integration and revision of curriculum
In partnership with the Communications department, coordinate all student health and wellness-related efforts and communications within the school community to better enable reinforcement and integration
Lead faculty professional development related to the integration of research-based teaching and learning practices that promote deep learning and student wellness
Ensure successful integration of wellness practices into student life at Bolles to include academics, athletics, arts, and extracurricular activities
Serve as a spokesperson for the school on issues of student health and wellness, particularly as related to the role of socio-emotional health on learning
Communicate with and subsequently engage parents as partners in supporting school wellness initiatives
Responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, employee development, and administration in the following departments: Guidance Counseling, Learning Support Services, Nursing
B.S. in Health, Counseling or a related field is required. A Master’s degree and five or more years of related experience preferred
A strong health, wellness, teaching/training background coupled with a proven capacity for developing innovative and imaginative programming around issues of health and wellness
Possess a deep understanding of health education and wellness practices, along with the ability to link these content areas to K-12 curriculum and pedagogies
A student-centered, innovative, and collaborative educational leader
Have the skills and experiences necessary to translate research on wellness and health into a PK-12 teaching and learning environment, especially as it relates to the intersection of social and emotional health on cognition
The ability to build and maintain positive relationships demonstrated by strong listening skills, superior communication skills, an open-mind, and a commitment to inclusion
Collaborative team member with a high level of emotional intelligence and superior communication skills
Deep and broad knowledge of health and wellness education
The ability to connect joyfully with the wide range of ages and people within our school community
Ability to engage in a lively and complex independent school environment
