This represents a remarkable opportunity! Spanish is being taught at the school, beginning in Preschool and continues through the 8th Grade. We’re looking for someone who can work effectively independently as well as part of a team, working closely with the Middle School Spanish Teacher. We need a leader who understands best practices in teaching immersion Spanish and who is passionate about teaching to children in Elementary through Middle School. Under minimal supervision, provides an optimal Spanish Immersion style classroom learning environment for students in Elementary and Middle School, preparing students to potentially access higher level Spanish classes.
Develops and implements curriculum and unit plans
Teaches across multiple grades
Collaborate with Elementary and Middle School Teachers to create a meaningful and developmentally appropriate Spanish curriculum
Partners closely with the Middle School Spanish Teacher to foster a cohesive foreign language program
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of teaching practices and a commitment to teaching within a caring, highly academic environment
Works with families and communicates in a clear and supportive manner
Stays abreast of current educational research and best practices
Promotes field of Spanish education within school community by creating school events, participating in interdisciplinary projects, developing field trips, and building connections with native speakers in local and international communities
Vigorously engages in his/her own professional development
Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open and candid dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies
Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in elementary education, Spanish or related areas from a four-year college or university required
Master’s Degree in elementary education, Spanish, or related areas preferred
3+ years of combined teaching experience required
Experience in developing and writing curriculum required
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Fluency in Spanish
Knowledge of current trends and research in learning and assessment
Experience in teaching Spanish in elementary and middle school classrooms
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the children and program.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows environment using Microsoft Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
