Carrollwood Day School (CDS) seeks a dedicated and experienced Middle School Learning Specialist. Carrollwood Day School, Middle School School Division, seeks a Learning Specialist to join our team for the 2018-2019 school year. The Learning Specialist works with students, primarily in grades 6 through 8, with academic and social-emotional learning differences in a highly rigorous, college preparatory program. Responsibilities include case management of identified students and direct service including teaching learning strategies individually and in small groups. The Learning Specialist works collaboratively with counselors, faculty, admissions and administration.

Ability to interpret, summarize, discuss and apply psychoeducational testing
Strong understanding of and commitment to promoting growth mindset
Exceptional communication, collaboration, and writing skills
Self-directed and highly organized
Ability to develop and maintain a strong professional networks with outside experts
Understanding of current research and research-based practices
Responsibilities will include:
Assessing students’ strengths and challenges within the classroom; determining how students best learn
Providing feedback to teachers on what strategies may best help their students and assistance in differentiating materials
Developing Accommodation Plans (IEPs) for students based on assessment, observation, and external professional testing
Implement specialized learning plans and track student progress, making adjustments as needed
Meet with families, teachers, counselors and administration to communicate student needs and plans
Facilitate MAP standardized testing and use the data for individual and group curriculum improvements
Teach and mentor students as a class, small groups and one-on-one
Being an active member of our Student Wellness Team
Qualifications: A Master’s degree in counseling, special education, or other related field is required. At least 5 years experience with differentiated instruction, assessment and development of accommodation plans (504s), and standardized testing facilitation and interpretation.
