Purnell School seeks a full time reading specialist to provide individualized instruction to students in grades 9 - 12 and to support our structured writing program across the curriculum. Training in Orton-Gillingham or Wilson’s Reading Program is highly desirable, though not required. Reading and Learning Specialists at Purnell are part of our Learning & Wellness Team, which facilitates our student-centered and holistic approach to adolescent girls’ education and well-being.
Provide effective and supportive instruction for students with diverse learning profiles including learning disabilities and ADHD.
Maintain accurate and complete records of remedial techniques and student progress.
Attend selective professional development conferences/seminars to further enhance professional knowledge.
Provide support to several students as their Advisor, the main communicative link between students and their families.
Work collaboratively with faculty and administrators.
Demonstrate a sincere interest in teaching and learning and a positive growth mindset.
Contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom.
Support the mission of Purnell School to teach girls who learn differently to grow intellectually and flourish personally.
Most faculty live in campus housing or in the dormitory as a hall parent. Faculty are required to work approximately 8-10 weekends throughout the school year as residential supervision or a trip chaperone.
