The Children’s School seeks an experienced full-time Director of Curricular Innovation and Learning Design to start July 1, 2018. The mission of The Children’s School is to enrich minds and inspire dreams. TCS is a progressive elementary/middle school serving students from age three through eighth grade in a diverse community in midtown Atlanta. Grounded in principles of excellence, inclusion, innovation, and play, our graduates are passion-driven young adults who lead lives of purpose in an interconnected world.
Reporting to the Assistant Head of School, the Director of Curricular Innovation and Learning Design is the curricular leader of the faculty, supporting teachers in creating immersive, inquiry-based learning experiences, supporting innovative and strategic pedagogical approaches to implement the curriculum, and overseeing the development, implementation, documentation and alignment of curriculum across the grades. The Children’s School views curriculum as constantly evolving in response to new learning, and this position is responsible for initiating, motivating, and mobilizing that curriculum evolution.
A Master’s degree preferred or Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in education or educational administration, or a related field. Elementary experience strongly preferred. A minimum of 5-7 years of teaching and administrative experience at the elementary/middle school level required. Ideal candidates have demonstrated leadership experience in leading change initiatives; in supervising, supporting and collaborating with adult learners; and with developing and implementing programs.
Candidate should have a solid understanding of adult learning, child development, progressive philosophy, and creative pedagogy. Candidate should also have demonstrated experience in, and enthusiasm for, 21st century education, and hands-on inquiry-based learning.
Candidate should possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, relate quickly to others, and should demonstrate flexibility and a preference for working within a highly collaborative team structure. Candidates should be skilled in facilitating and documenting group processes, have strong communication skills in speaking and writing, possess excellent organizational skills in developing and structuring documents, and the be able to manage and follow through with complex long-term projects. Candidate should be a process-driven and detailed thinker and have the ability to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Additional Salary Information: Compensation commensurate with experience.
