The Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County (SSDS), an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) candidate school, is seeking a qualified, full-time Health and Physical Education (HPE) Instructor with a New Jersey teaching certificate (or equivalent) to work in a collaborative, warm, academic environment. Candidate will be a role model who can help foster our students’ personal and academic growth, implement a variety of instructional strategies such as student-based inquiry, and group discussion, and has familiarity with such technology as Google Classroom suite and the latest educational applications to enhance student learning. This includes openness to working in multiple platforms. Experience with IB preferred but not required as the middle school (grades 6-8) portion of this position involves planning, instruction, and assessment utilizing IB guidelines.
Teach and/or co-teach sections of Physical Education in grade pre-K though 8, utilizing established curriculum. Experience in teaching Health Education at the middle school level is a plus.
For grades 6-8, actively participate in both traditional instructional planning and lesson design following the principles and criteria of the International Baccalaureate, Middle Years Program (IB MYP).
Attend in-house and off-site training related to the International Baccalaureate Programme. All off-site expenses will be covered by the school.
Work closely with the Principals and the IB Coordinator to provide instruction that both engages students and inspires learning.
Where appropriate, utilize technology to enhance student learning.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and good sportsmanship needed to achieve a positive learning atmosphere.
Challenge students to become active learners/participants and encourage curiosity, creativity, and spirit.
Foster respect for others, a commitment to Jewish values and ethics.
Assess students' academic and social growth through both formative and summative assessments, maintain records, and modify instruction to promote student growth and learning.
Communicate regularly with parents through conferences, email, and phone calls to discuss students' progress, sharing successes and working in partnership to enhance student development.
Serve as a role model in fostering students’ personal, physical and academic growth.
