ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Crystal Springs Uplands School, a co-educational independent day school, serving students in grades 6-12 on two campuses is seeking a part-time (.80) Associate Director of Academic Support for its Middle School campus in Belmont, reporting to the Director of Academic Support.
The Academic Support Specialist will arrive at an exciting time in the history of this school with the opening of our new Middle School campus in the fall of 2017 and our increase in enrollment. This expansion will give this position the opportunity to help us examine our current practice of supporting students and to develop new protocols based on current and best practices.
With the support of a local nonprofit, Crystal Springs has embarked on a project to evaluate current services offered for students with learning differences. We’ve begun by surveying key stakeholders, and will continue in the following months by conducting in-depth research of offerings at peer schools and universities. The goal is to finalize a list of recommended changes or augmentations by the time the new LD specialists come on board full time for the coming academic year.
This project reflects Crystal’s commitment to its core values of celebrating scholarship and academic excellence, while fostering kindness and inclusion of all types of learners. We hope that the future learning specialists will be inspired to weave these recommendations into our student support services as we seek to build out a more robust Academic Resource Center in the coming years.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing and implementing strategies for helping students with learning differences, collaborating with faculty in their effort to support students with learning differences, and partnering with the families in their effort to support their children.
More specifically, we are looking for candidates who have experience
identifying and working directly with students with learning differences, including providing expertise to help students develop effective learning strategies and teaching important study skills
serving as case manager for students with learning differences, including writing, updating and ensuring proper implementation of learning plans
partnering with families of students with learning differences
reading, interpreting, and translating educational testing into necessary accommodations and/or interventions
collaborating with faculty in helping them develop best practices in teaching students with learning differences
facilitating professional development workshops for faculty
identifying technology and software that best supports students with learning differences
In addition, we are looking for candidates who
possess a master’s degree in education with a specialization in school psychology, special education or educational therapy
have at least 3 years of experience
are highly organized, with strong interpersonal and technological skills
have a strong understanding of learning differences, from both a neuropsychological and practical perspective
stay abreast of the school’s curriculum content, learning expectations, and teaching practices, including practices that are developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive
Additional responsibilities include
coordinating extended time of standardized tests, and filing the necessary paperwork with the Educational Testing Service
representing the school at open houses and other events
attending grade level and other meetings
scheduling yearly educational planning meetings with families, students, advisors and faculty before and during the school year
