The School: Founded in 1911, Columbus Academy is a PreK-12 coeducational college preparatory day school of over 1,070 students located on a 231-acre campus ten miles from downtown Columbus, Ohio. Student programs are organized into three divisions: Lower School (PreK-Grade 4), Middle School (Grades 5-8) and Upper School (Grades 9-12). The Position: Columbus Academy seeks a full-time Upper School (Grades 9-12) Art & Sculpture Teacher with responsibilities to begin August 2018.
Position Expectations: The individual selected to this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities: ? Teach five sections, which meet regularly but not necessarily daily ? Follow best practices and teach students proper safety protocols ? Assume a share of supervisory responsibilities expected of all upper school faculty members ? Collaborate with departmental colleagues on curriculum design and development along with utilizing and showcasing CA’s art gallery ? Provide periodic updates to parents about student progress, via both written reports and in-person conferences ? Work with independent-based portfolio students ? Network with outside vendors and have familiarity with supply ordering processes ? Make use of technological resources, including the school’s online learning management site for classes and integration of iPads and laptops in classroom activities ? Hold students accountable for the school’s standards of behavior ? Work with others in the school community to support each student’s emotional well-being Physical Conditions : Candidates must be able to manage the following conditions: ? Classroom environment ? Mobility around school buildings and on different floors (handicap accessible) ? Repetitive motion (use of a computer keyboard) ? Periodic need to move light furniture, hang visuals in classroom, carry objects (no more than 50 pounds), etc. ? A non-smoking environment

Qualifications: Preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications: ? Bachelor’s degree or higher in Fine Arts or closely related field ? 3+ years art/ceramics teaching experience in high school or college ? Ability to teach multiple levels of Ceramics, Sculpture (grades 10-12) and an introductory Foundations of Studio Art course (grade 9) ? Expertise in running a studio which includes: firing a Cone 10 gas kiln (Bailey 18-C with auto fire) and Cone 10 electric kiln (Skutt PK-1627). Ability to use outdoor kiln shed with raku, pit and wood firing a plus. ? Develop and maintain recipe-based glazes ? Knowledge of clay bodies and the ability to recycle clay with a Peter Pugger pugger mixer ? Advanced knowledge of both hand-building (extruder, slab roller) and wheel techniques (13 Brent and Shimpo wheels) ? Ability to teach multiple welding techniques (mig/tig on Miller Synchrowave 120) and forming techniques w/ sheet brake, cutter, roller machine and plasma cutter ? Evident enthusiasm for the fine arts
