Greenhills School (Ann Arbor, Mich.) seeks a dynamic maternity leave substitute teacher for 9th and 10th grade history to begin April 2017 and to conclude at the end of the school year in early June. The candidate will have a genuine interest in working with adolescents in an independent school community. The ideal candidate will also possess: an understanding of the academic, social, and developmental needs of the age group; the ability to work closely with students, parents, and colleagues; a commitment to the mission and culture of the school; and an interest in applying student-centered teaching practices, including the use of technology and innovative pedagogical strategies. Undergraduate study of history/social studies and/or history education, graduate work in those disciplines, and proven experience with the age group are expected. A background in high school education is preferred, but not required.
Other contractual responsibilities for this position will include: directing a 9th grade advisory group, helping to supervise student activities, chaperoning school events, and general involvement in the life of the school.
