Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1235 students in grades JK-12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world”.
Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students.
The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of all of the School’s marketing strategies, communications, and public relations activities, both external and internal. The Director coordinates with the admissions, advancement, and the academic offices on the editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all School’s publications and messaging at both the strategic and tactical level.
Create, implement and measure the success of a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations program that will enhance the School’s image and positively position the School within the marketplace and the general public.
Organize and oversee the timely production of all admissions, marketing, and communications activities and materials, including but not limited to: Website,Admissions Viewbook, Report on Philanthropy, Parker Magazine, and the Parker Family Connection.
Coordinate the appearance and ensure consistency of all School print and electronic materials such as letterhead, use of logo, brochures, etc.
Regularly conduct relevant market research, monitoring trends and emerging strategies within the independent school community.
Act as the School’s representative with the media, managing all media relations, including writing press releases and cultivating relations with local media.
Serve as lead member of the campus crisis management team and act as the school’s spokesperson during any such security issues, emergencies, or crises
Develop and coordinate means to seek regular input from the School’s key constituencies regarding the quality of materials, programs and services.
Develop short- and long-term communications and marketing goals, objectives and budgets, and monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance.
Oversee the multi-faceted cross-divisional onboarding process to orient newly enrolled families and new-to-a-School-division families.
Maintain a climate that attracts, retains and motivates top quality personnel, both paid and volunteer.
Serve as an ambassador for the School and its mission

Minimum of 5 years experience in marketing, communications or public relations with demonstrated success, preferably in the independent schools or the not-for-profit sector.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, public relations preferred. Graduate degree in a related field is desirable.
Experience developing and managing budgets, and hiring, training, developing, supervising and appraising personnel.
Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, making presentations and overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
Computer literacy in word processing, data base management, website design, page layout, and social media.
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects at a time, get along with coworkers, management and volunteers, and deal effectively, ethically and professionally at all times.
Present a professional image as a representative of the School.
Assure proper maintenance, cleanliness and security of work area.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
