The Director of Diversity and Multicultural Programs will partner with and report to the Director of Human Resources to meet the goals of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The Director will also serve as a member of the senior administrative team and works closely with the Headmaster, Associate Heads of School and Division Heads. While charged with providing support to all members of the Latin community, the Director will have a particular focus on faculty and staff recruitment and retention, student recruitment and retention, curriculum and student life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Long Term Approach
Provide strategic leadership in the area of diversity and inclusion.
Develop and implement a diversity tactical plan, based upon the school's mission and strategic plan.
Pursue professional development opportunities; attend conferences and professional meetings in order to stay current with diversity and inclusion issues that may affect the school.
Promote best practices with respect to diversity issues in collaboration with the administrative team that are consistent with the School’s culture and values.
Recruitment and Retention
In collaboration with the Director of Human Resources, improve effectiveness and success in recruiting and retaining diverse faculty and staff.
Work with the Admission Office to recruit, welcome, and retain students from diverse backgrounds; and review and implement the mentoring program for new families on an annual basis.
Curriculum and Training
With the Associate Head for Academic Affairs, division heads and faculty members, evaluate, advise, and support development of an inclusive and multicultural curriculum across the divisions.
Plan, develop, and promote diversity and inclusion-focused education, programs, and events for faculty, staff, students, and families; plan professional development workshops and programming for faculty and staff.
Student Leadership and Internal Support
Engage in all aspects of the community
Serve as a resource for faculty with respect to student support
Support and develop student diversity leadership in collaboration with the division heads
Act as liaison to and develop strong relationships with the various diversity and inclusion-related groups in the school, and respond to diversity related issues among the student body as they arise.
Community Outreach and Engagement
Act as a liaison between the school and local diverse communities to serve these communities better and to support the school’s outreach and admissions marketing and recruitment programs.
Work with the Marketing and Communications Office to publicize diversity-related events, educational opportunities, workshops, etc. for students, faculty, families, and the local community.
Network with diversity coordinators at other independent schools as well as off-campus cultural resource organizations.
Represent the school at local, regional, and national multicultural events as determined in conjunction with the senior administrative team.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree, masters preferred, plus five or more years’ experience leading a diversity program in a similar environment. K -12 Independent School experience preferred.
Or combination of equivalent experience, education, and training.
Demonstrates knowledge of inclusive teaching practices and multi-cultural educational experiences
Communicates effectively with all constituents orally and by written expression
Exhibits a team-oriented attitude of service as well as ability to motivate others
Acts as a well-organized, effective planner that understands the school calendar and appropriate lead time required
Collaborates in a compassionate and respectful way, patient and relational, intuitive and genuine

Work effectively with families, faculty and staff to accomplish goals and objectives
