Riverdale’s History Department is seeking an enthusiastic, collegial and knowledgeable faculty member to help develop deep historical understanding in Middle and Upper School students. This position will be divided between both the Middle and the Upper School divisions, though with a likely emphasis on the Middle School. Our curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, including the 6th grade New York City unit, the 7th grade simulations-based civics class, as well as “Constructing America,” an 11th grade American Studies course team-taught by History and English faculty. Teachers with expertise in American history are especially attractive for this particular hire, though knowledge of non-Western history is also important. Our ideal candidate helps students learn formal historical analysis in addition to making connections to contemporary life.
All candidates for Riverdale teaching positions should demonstrate an interest in engaging students in an environment that is both supportive and rigorous and will participate in community activities including advising groups, service opportunities, or other co-curricular activities. Our Middle School and Upper School are located together on the Hill Campus. A Bachelor's degree is required; Masters and Doctoral degree holders will receive additional consideration, though equally if not more important will be those with previous teaching experience. Riverdale is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Interested and qualified candidates should apply by sending an email to Richard Lapidus, Dean of Faculty, at email@example.com and cc’ing Josie Rodberg, Interim History Department Chair at firstname.lastname@example.org.
