Riverdale Country School is a preK - 12 day school in New York City that combines both traditional and innovative practices to provide an excellent Liberal Arts learning environment. Through our guiding principles - opening minds, developing character, and building community - we aim to shape disciplined and flexible individuals who will change global and local communities for the good.
Our Teaching Fellows program, entering its third set of hires, provides a structured, two-year program that prepares Fellows to teach on both the Middle School and Upper School levels. Fellows meet as a cohort weekly. They observe and eventually co-teach in both the Middle and Upper divisions, as well as have an assigned mentor in each of those divisions. The Fellow also teaches one class solo in the first year; in the second year, that is more likely to be either two or three classes, depending on need. Fellows are also given a housing stipend.
Riverdale is very likely to be entering a cohort of day schools that will pair with the University of Pennsylvania, working together so that Fellows earn a Masters in Teaching during their two year fellowship. More details about this program will be forthcoming as they are solidified.
All candidates for Riverdale teaching positions should demonstrate an interest in engaging students in an environment that is both supportive and rigorous and will participate in community activities including advising groups, service opportunities, or other co-curricular activities. Riverdale is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Interested and qualified candidates should apply by sending an email to Dean of Faculty, Richard Lapidus (email@example.com) and Josie Rodberg (firstname.lastname@example.org), Interim Chair of the History Department.
