The Beacon School, an independent day school for intellectually curious students in grades 3 -12, seeks a long term substitute art teacher. Due to its strong gifted education model, Beacon has become a haven for the twice exceptional students who need rigorous academic standards, ample opportunities for acceleration and enhancement and a supportive school environment.
There are two art classes: Visual Arts and Illustrating Mythology. Visual arts is a class comprised of upper elementary aged students who work on diverse mixed media projects, including traditional art disciplines, engineering and science art challenges and crafts. The hours for this class are Mondays and Wednesday Period #3 from 10:36 to 11:21AM.
The second class is Illustrating Mythology and the class is comprised of a group of upper elementary aged students who build illustration tools while discussing mythology. Students focus on one scene of one myth for several weeks, exploring different illustration tools and techniques. The hours for this class is Mondays Period #7 from 1:48 to 2:33PM.
This subbing position could lead to both summer school teaching opportunities and becoming part of the Beacon School permanent faculty and staff.
Must have art education background preferably teaching children.
Must also have a BS in Fine Arts.
