La Jolla Country Day School is seeking an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and flexible candidate to serve on the Upper School leadership team and work with 9th and 10th graders, their parents, faculty, and other community members on multiple facets of a student experience at Country Day. The Dean will report to the Upper School Head and serve on the Upper School’s leadership team. This is a year-round leadership position.
The primary function of the role is to serve as a leader in the Upper School with oversight of the holistic experience (academics and academic planning, co-curricular, student life, and faculty relationship building) of 9th and 10th graders. The work includes a strong partnership with other Upper School leaders, including, of course, the Upper School Head, but also the Dean for 11th and 12th graders, the Upper School Dean of Faculty, the department chairs, and other all-school leaders, especially the Office of Admissions. In this latter capacity, the Dean must have a strong relationship with the Middle School to help our own Country Day students assimilate into the Upper School. The position comes with teaching a single course within one’s field of expertise.

Lead and support several student-centered activities such as Ethics Council, Peer Leaders, and the 9/10 Advisory program
Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the school and/or self selected professional growth activities. Maintaining a growth mindset is critical for both professional growth and modeling
Primary liaison to Middle School, particularly for continuity of program in PK-12 community
Leadership of (and participation in) one of the school’s Experiential Education trips
Other duties as assigned by the Upper School Head and/or Head of School
An advanced degree is ideal, and a B.A. or comparable undergraduate degree is required
