La Jolla Country Day School is seeking a qualified educator who works with students who learn differently in all subject areas including time management, study, and test preparation skills for the 2017-2018 academic year. The educational therapist will individualize curriculum for each student based on assessed needs, and communicate with classroom teachers and parents so that a complete partnership is established.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provides instruction in small groups and individually;
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior;
Develops individualized lesson plans and instructional materials as part of planned learning experiences to motivate students;
Evaluates student academic and social growth, keeps accurate records, prepares progress reports and communicates with parents on individual student progress;
Assumes responsibility for proper care and use of equipment;
Is able to organize and prepare presentations to faculty;
Maintains professional competence through participation in in service education activities provided by the school and/or self-selected professional growth activities;
Completes all reports as required in a timely fashion, including student evaluation, orders, program evaluation and lesson plans;
Interprets the educational program to parents and other community members through personal conferences, meetings and various media;
Attends team meeting and parent meetings if possible;
Maintains active participation in the work of the department on curriculum development, vision and pedagogy.
M.A., or M.S. degree in Learning Disabilities, and/or credential in Special Education/Learning Disabilities, and/or Educational Therapy program graduate
Comprehensive understanding of tests/evaluation
Strong reading training (knowledge of Seeing Stars, LiPs, V&V, and/or similar program)
Experience in the field of Educational Therapy/ Learning Resource Center
Three or more years of teaching experience in the classroom or in private practice with children who learn differently
Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
