Isidore Newman School seeks a Middle School Algebra teacher who uses best pedagogical practices in order to maximize mathematical understanding and achievement in their students.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in mathematics or in mathematical education.
Strong candidates will possess excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills; demonstrate strong collaboration and problem solving skills. Candidates must have demonstrated interest in helping students experience academic and social growth; be successful in working with teams; be willing to contribute to school activities outside of the assigned classroom; possess strong understanding of the developmental level of the students they teach; and genuinely love to work with students and educators at the middle school level.
The Newman Middle School is a team-based environment with an emphasis on building strong relationships between all constituencies as the platform for success in a rigorous and rewarding academic program. Newman Middle School teachers put the highest value on knowing each of their students as multi-faceted individuals. Part of a teacher's day is spent as an advisor to a small group of advisees, with whom the advisor has a three year relationship.
Develop and implement engaging daily lesson plans.
Assign thoughtful homework and give students appropriate feedback on it.
Emphasize connections among ideas and the understanding of math procedures.
Foster a growth mindset among all math students.
Help all students recognize and develop their potential to be capable mathematical thinkers.
Prepare unit teaching objectives that align with the math department's curriculum.
Work collaboratively with departmental colleagues whenever curriculum changes are needed.
Provide one-on-one and small group assistance to support student learning.
Communicate with parents and advisors as needed to support student learning.
Write clear, detailed report card comments that help parents understand the progress of their child in our curriculum.
Provide or recommend mathematical enrichment opportunities.
Work with administrators and colleagues in the mentoring of middle school students.
Implement classroom and communication practices that foster the growth of ethical behavior, social skills, and excellent work habits.
