Sandy Spring Friends School seeks a dynamic, engaging, mathematics teacher for students in grades 9-12. The position is likely to include four to five sections of math courses. Potential subject areas include Integrated Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-calculus. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the position includes advising, weekend support for the dormitory, and responsibility for one extra-curricular activity, such as coaching a sport, depending on the candidate’s teaching load, interests, and the needs of the School.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a closely related field; advanced degree preferred and curriculum development and instructional training a plus. Experience teaching a range of courses in a high school setting using a variety of teaching methods preferred. SSFS seeks teachers who value the importance of issues of diversity and can both share and teach differing points of view. Applicants should embrace ongoing professional development and have a desire to work with students making the transition from adolescence to adulthood in a supportive, challenging, college-preparatory environment. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and written communications skills, and basic computer literacy for both administrative and instructional purposes. Knowledge of Quaker beliefs and practices is helpful, but not required.
