ABOUT GIRLS PREPARATORY SCHOOL:
Girls Preparatory School (GPS) was founded to provide girls with the necessary courses to pursue a college education, GPS has proudly graduated almost 6000 young women since 1906. Currently, 131 faculty and staff serve about 600 girls in grades 6-12 with a college preparatory curriculum that includes a full complement of humanities, arts and STEM courses and co-curricular programs of leadership development, athletics, performing arts and community engagement.
Using 21st century pedagogical approaches, implements daily instructional plans. Maintains a class environment favorable to girls academic and personal growth; Establishes effective rapport with students while maintaining proper classroom management. Works effectively with technology, uses interdisciplinary approaches in the classroom, and has done or does project-based instruction. While working within a team setting, shares ideas and receives feedback in a collaborative manner. Teacher must be proficient in the field of mathematics, and is able to teach several different math courses. High consideration is given to those who have experience teaching Algebra II to BC Calculus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Mathematics Chair, the Math Teacher will:
- Plan, develop and execute lessons that reflect the curriculum
- Adapt math course curriculum for individual, small group, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students
- Evaluate the academic and social growth of students
- Evaluate student progress and the ability to meet course standards in math-related knowledge and skills
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior
- Plan and develop lesson plans and teaching outlines
- Employ a variety of methodologies in teaching and instructing pupils, including demonstrations, discussions, and lectures
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
- Advisory duties-advises students in small advisory groups with all the responsibilities that this entails.
- May be asked to co-sponsor or sponsor a club or school activity.
- Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
- Knows procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems.
- Knows school procedures and regulations.
- Performs other related duties as directed by the Upper or Middle School Division Head.
- Strong knowledge of mathematics as well as the ability to make connections to STEM-related fields.
- Keen interest in guiding and inspiring girls.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance the needs of the girls.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate with a diverse range of constituents using different modes.
- Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or post graduate work in mathematics or mathematics education is required.
- Must have 3 or more years of teaching experience.
