The Assistant Director of Development, Special Events reports to the Director of Development. This position supports all areas of the Development Office, as instructed by the Director of Development and Alumni Relations, with a specific emphasis on Burke’s annual Auction, Alumni Weekend and Reunion, and other stewardship and cultivation events. This position will also be responsible for managing Burke’s 50th Anniversary celebration during the 2018-19 school year. This is a full-time, year-round position, which is annually contracted from July 1 – June 30. The position begins immediately.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans and executes all aspects of development and alum events, including but not limited to the:
Annual Auction: consisting of an online auction, silent auction, live auction, paddle-raise, dinner, and event run-of-show; Responsible for raising $225,000 in gross revenue from annual auction
Alumni and Homecoming Weekend: a multi-event weekend, including homecoming games and a reunion event
Other Stewardship and Cultivation Events: including Grandparents Day, Volunteer Thank You party, Leadership Givers Thank You party, the Alumni Holiday party, and events related to an upcoming Capital Campaign
Upcoming 50th Anniversary Celebration: chair an internal committee to plan our 50th year in 2018-19; Lead committees of alumni, parents and faculty to plan outreach efforts, events and activities
Works with communications and marketing team to create event communications timelines and materials, including auction newsletters, catalog, invitations, webpages, social media, etc.
Contracts and manages vendors during all stages of planning process for all events
Trains and manages event volunteers
Supports other Development Office initiatives, including the Annual Fund, Alumni Relations, and Capital Campaign, as needed and assigned
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and Alumni Relations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The Assistant Director of Development, Special Events must be goal-oriented, able to meet deadlines, communicate well (both written and oral), possess strategic thinking and detail-oriented skills, and have the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Previous experience using Raiser’s Edge, Greater Giving, and Bidding for Good strongly desired. Must be able to attend weekend and evening activities, as necessary.
The Assistant Director of Development, Special Events possesses a minimum of a bachelor's degree and has 3-5 years of successful event fundraising experience.
