Middlesex School seeks a permanent full-time Director of Counseling Services beginning July 1, 2017. Middlesex is a coeducational, college-preparatory, boarding secondary school of 395 students located in Concord, Massachusetts. For more information on Middlesex, please visit our website at www.mxschool.edu.
We seek seasoned candidates with significant experience (5+ years at minimum) working with the wide array of emotional, psychological, and social issues present in an adolescent community. Candidates should present with educational credentials reflecting substantial graduate work in counseling- or child psychology-related fields. School counseling experience will be a plus.
This faculty position offers the Director membership in a dynamic and collegial environment, as Middlesex School is firmly committed to the health and welfare of its students and community members. A willingness to participate with enthusiasm in all aspects of a residential school community is essential. Besides working individually with students, the Director of Counseling participates in several ongoing committees, leading and co-leading groups such as peer support, senior leadership and student orientation. The Director of Counseling works with outside providers, families, and other faculty and therefore must feel comfortable and confident in the role as advocate, consultant, crisis manager, and educator. Working in close collaboration with the Director of our Health Center, the Dean of Students, and the Assistant Head and Head of School, the Director of Counseling is a highly-visible faculty member expected to participate in the full community life of the school, including faculty supervisory responsibilities. Willingness to be on call and the ability to work on weekends and evenings with some flexibility when students are on campus and school is in session is essential. While the responsibilities of this position largely track the academic calendar, as an administrative faculty member the Director works with students and families on an as-needed basis during school vacations and summer break.
Competitive salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Middlesex School is committed to cultivating and sustaining a community that embraces difference and welcomes candidates who will add to the racial and cultural diversity of our community. Middlesex School is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Please email a resume and cover letter (as a single pdf please) expressing your qualifications for the position and interest in the Middlesex School to Cheryl Steele at email@example.com.
