The Apprenticeship is an intensive, full-time position consisting of two classroom placements and extracurricular leadership experiences under the mentorship of dedicated faculty and the Director of Apprentices. The Program is tailored to the Apprentice's goals and to the School’s needs. Participants are immersed in the life of the school and are valued members of the Park faculty and community.The Apprentice is a member of the faculty and reports to the Director of the Apprentice Program. This is a 10-month, paid position.
Placement options for the the Apprenticeship Program include:
Lower or Middle Division (Grades I – V) self-contained classroom
Upper Division (Grade VI – Grade VIII) sections in English, social studies, math, science, Latin, French, Spanish, or Mandarin
Specialist classes (Grades Pre-K – Grade VIII) in art, music, library, or physical education
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with mentor teacher to establish and maintain classroom culture; plan and prepare for teaching and learning; differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students; monitor and assess student learning; partner and communicate with families
Develop increased responsibility in the classroom, culminating in a week of independent teaching in each placement
Lead extracurricular and co-curricular programs and activities such as athletics, drama, or the After-School Program
Serve as a member of grade level team, department, and division
Meet weekly with the Director of Apprentices and fellow apprentices
Participate in in-house seminars
Participate in outside professional development opportunities
Participate as member of local Apprentice Cohort
Observe classrooms in-house and in the Greater Boston Area
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Experience working with children and/or experience in an educational setting
Experience with technology and/or use of technology in an academic setting
Well developed written and oral communication skills
Excellent team member and collaborator
Bachelor’s degree required
Interest in exploring a career in teaching in a Pre-K to Grade 8 educational environment
Interest in coaching, drama, or after school programs
Commitment to fostering a sense of community
Willingness to participate in all aspects of the life of the school.
