The First Program at the Dalton School seeks a full-time head teacher to join the faculty beginning in the 2017-2018 school year. The ideal candidate understands progressive education and has experience with child-centered, differentiated curricula. S/he brings a positive attitude to the classroom and greater community and looks forward to overseeing an academically rigorous, creative classroom that validates and supports each child. Excellent communication skills, a passion for working with young children and their families, the willingness to collaborate and reflect on one's practice, and a sense of humor are essential. In addition, candidates should be invested in supervising and mentoring an Associate Teacher, helping her/him become experienced in all areas of life in a classroom.
A Master's degree in education and three years of head teaching experience are preferred.
The objectives of teaching at The Dalton School include: tailoring each student's program to his or her needs, interests, and abilities; promoting independence and dependability; and enhancing the student's social skills and sense of responsibility towards others.
