Headwaters School, a Pre-K through grade 12 independent day school serving 540 students across its three campuses in Austin, TX, is seeking a new head of its high school (grade 9-12). With 125 students in the high school (22 of whom are international students), Headwaters provides a warm and welcoming school culture for its students, while expecting curiosity, deep engagement and self-expression of each of its community members (teachers included). Students, faculty and staff are known on a first-name basis and pride themselves on direct communication and authenticity in their relationships.
We are seeking candidates who revel in the developmental period known as adolescence and who embody three traits that are dear to us: inquiry, engagement, and self-expression. The successful candidate will have experience with and demonstrate effectiveness in teaching, coaching and supporting high school students through the formative high school years. Prior teaching experience is a must. Administrative experience is strongly desired, and we are interested in meeting candidates who may have had experience developing and growing programs in service learning and/or project-based learning programs.
The HS Head reports directly to the Head of School and works closely with the Director of Studies for grades 6-12, Dean of Students, MS Head, Director of Student Life & College Counseling, and School Counselor. S/he serves on the Senior Administrative Team as well.
In addition to teaching experience and dynamic undergraduate and graduate preparation, ultimately, the successful candidate will need to possess the following attributes: resilience, tolerance for ambiguity, and a sense of adventure.
This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position and compensation is competitive for the greater Austin area. Headwaters School offers a wide-range of benefits including generous paid time off, 100% paid medical insurance for the employee and 401(k) employer matching, ongoing professional support and continuing education opportunities, and a unique working environment where you are able to share and receive ongoing feedback.
