Founded in 1952, Norwood School is a coeducational day school with approximately 440 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The school sits on 38 beautiful and expansive acres in Bethesda, Maryland, less than six miles from Washington, D.C. Norwood seeks a Lower School Counselor/Wellness Instructor four days a week with a solid background in educating young children and building a curriculum around social-emotional learning. The ideal candidate is a licensed professional (LSCW-C) with certification from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) or from the National Board of Certified Counselors.
The Lower School Counselor/Wellness Instructor will
Spend time with children in classrooms, on the playground, individually and in small groups, to help support and develop their social and emotional needs
Coordinate, teach, and build upon an existing curriculum that blends into our middle school program
Consult and support classroom teachers regarding behavioral or emotional needs of children
Meet weekly with student-support and grade-level teams
Observe, record, and coordinate efforts with all constituents around the care of young children, including parents, outside therapists, and teachers
Create and maintain individualized plans for students who require them
Provide ongoing faculty and parent professional development around topics of interest
Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work required
Licensed clinical social worker (LSCW-C)
Experience working with children ages 4-10 (pre-kindergarten through fourth grade)
High degree of emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills
Demonstrated diversity training
Experience building curriculum
Five years minimum experience in the field
Experience with crisis intervention
