Colorado Rocky Mountain School is looking for a highly qualified part-time teacher of blacksmithing.
Applicants should be committed to a student-centered approach to teaching. Arts educators at CRMS are expected to cultivate creativity, effective art studio habits with a focus on safety and an ethos of excellence. Our visual arts curriculum includes a focus on craftsmanship, art history, diverse genres, and art critical analysis. The teaching responsibilities include a seven day interim which focuses studies in Blacksmithing.In addition to teaching duties, this blacksmith will maintain The Mountain Forge (established by Francis Whitaker in 1988) manage gallery spaces and supervise a week-long Rocky Mountain Blacksmith Conference at the Mountain Forge each summer. All teachers at CRMS expected to act effectively within a diverse cultural and social framework.
CRMS is a college-preparatory independent boarding school located thirty miles from Aspen in the mountains of western Colorado. Our programs focus on education through meaningful work, wilderness experience, sustainable living, community service and a rigorous academic setting.
BA or advanced degree in related field
Experience maintaining a coal forge
Skills related to our wilderness education and/or mountain sports curricula (mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, skiing, horseback riding)
Must have or obtain Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification
