Norfolk Collegiate School seeks qualified candidates for a year-round Pre-Kindergarten teacher position. The ideal candidates will be experienced, enthusiastic, able to work effectively with colleagues and parents, as well as have keen insight into early childhood age children. The candidate should have a comprehensive knowledge regarding the intellectual, social, emotional and physical developmental needs of four and five year olds. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to provide a student centered classroom environment and positive learning experience, differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of students, as well as, foster the intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills. A strong work ethic and a desire to be a lifelong learner should also be qualities this teacher possesses.
Provides a safe and nurturing classroom environment conducive to learning
Organizes and delivers age appropriate indoor and outdoor activities that provide active learning experiences and stimulates physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth in all students
Leads students to develop independence and intellectual curiosity and foster the love for learning
Exhibits excellent classroom management and parent communication
Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
Collaborates with other instructional staff, school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources
Models conversation, manners, clean up activities, listening skills, etc. for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
Utilizes technology to facilitate instruction, communication and enhance learning
Supervises and directs the work of teacher assistants
Facilitates learning centers (e.g. art, science, music, role play, story time, movement activities, etc.) for the purpose of improving the student's academic success and transition to kindergarten and beyond
Understands the mission of the school and the need to focus on the education of the whole child
Seeks opportunities for continuous professional growth
Experience and Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in education is required. A Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
Previous teaching experience in early childhood education, preferred.
Current CPR and First Aid certification, preferred
