As Punahou School looks to the future, leaders imagine a richly networked learning environment, where technology is leveraged to connect people to information and each other. As part of the process, Punahou Schools is committed to transforming library spaces into Learning Commons, a place where inquiry and imagination fuel the collision of ideas. The physical spaces that we now know as libraries will transform into physical and virtual hubs that connect our classrooms, workshops and labs, while fostering synergy between students and teachers, between disciplines, and between Punahou and the rest of the world.
As the school transitions to this new and innovative approach, we are actively recruiting a librarian that will assist with the transition. As part of the educational team, the Librarian will collaborate with a team of librarians, information science professionals, and other educators to promote and implement the vision of the Bishop Learning Commons. Through partnerships with educators, the librarian will help to build and strengthen connections between student information and research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, and information resources in a positive and engaging climate. The librarian will continue to promote a welcoming and comfortable environment that provides an array of spaces for students to learn independently and/or collaboratively. The librarian's visibility and availability to students is essential to connect with students and offer one-to-one and group support. When needed, the librarian will also serve as an advisory teacher in the middle school, supporting and guiding students as they navigate a uniquely transitional time in their lives. Through the role of an educator, the librarian will teach students to develop the skills, dispositions, ethics, and self-evaluation necessary to solve information problems in order to become responsible, lifelong learners; and to ultimately, fulfill the Aims of a Punahou Education.
The ideal candidates will have the ability to adapt to new environments, be open to new and innovate ways to partner with educators and facilitate learning, and have the technical knowledge of contemporary library and information science practices and applications. If you thrive in a team-oriented and collaborative environment, have excellent communication skills, and have a passionto promote a love of reading and lifelong learning, we invite you to apply!
