Middle School Librarian
Beginning July 1, 2017
Gilman School seeks a Middle School Head Librarian for the 2017-2018 school year. This is a full-time administrative position, reporting to the Director of Libraries and the Head of Middle School. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: reviewing and selecting materials to maintain a current, well-rounded, and culturally diverse collection for students and teachers; nurturing reading for pleasure and literature appreciation with scheduled homeroom meetings; organizing and implementing Supplementary Reading and Summer Reading Programs for students and faculty; evaluating content for web page and online databases; and teaching research and library skills in collaboration with subject-area teachers. In addition, s/he will be a member of the Middle School Admissions Team and serve on the Middle School Executive Committee. Experience with cross-disciplinary teaching, iPad implementation in teaching and learning, and involvement in clubs and coaching are not required but strongly preferred.
- Master’s degree in Library Science.
- Experience working in a Middle School environment.
- Technologically experienced.
- Knowledge of Google products.
- Expertise in technology implementation, specifically the iPad.
- Database management experience.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills appropriate for various age groups.
- Great at multitasking with the ability to handle multiple projects at once.
- Team player.
- Self-starter with initiative.
