Full Time History Teacher
Beginning August 2017
Marin Academy seeks an experienced history teacher to begin in August 2017. Candidates should have at least three years of teaching experience at the high school or college level, a background in teaching and studying history or a related subject (International Relations, Modern Middle East Studies, etc.), and a desire to teach Modern World History I (9th grade) and Modern World History II (10th grade) and potentially electives in an area of interest and expertise. Expertise in non-Western history is a plus.
The history program also includes a required U.S. History course for 11th graders and a rich variety of elective courses for seniors. These elective courses vary from year to year but may include International Relations; History, Culture and Identity; Justice in America; Gender Studies; and area studies courses such as Latin American History: Mexico, and Middle Eastern Studies.
Candidates should be ready and excited to work collaboratively in teams within the History department and across MA’s academic departments. Candidates should also be ready to embrace MA’s student-centered philosophy and pedagogy. MA values the inclusion of many voices and perspective and candidates should have the inclination and experience to work in a diverse community focused on issues of equity and social justice. Individuals with a demonstrated desire to play roles across the school, including coaching, leading student activities, and supporting key programs will be prioritized. A Bachelor’s degree is required and a graduate degree is preferred.
Marin Academy is an independent, college preparatory high school located in the San Francisco Bay Area in San Rafael, CA with an enrollment of 400 students with academic talent, interest in the arts and athletics, and a passion for a multitude of issues. Our students come from San Francisco, the East Bay, and Sonoma in addition to Marin County. Marin Academy has a block schedule in which classes meet every other day for 75-minute periods.
