Poly Prep Country Day School is seeking a maternity leave replacement for a middle school arts instructor to teach grades five through eight throughout the late winter and spring terms. The position is temporary, full time with classes held five days a week from 8:30am -4:00pm, consisting of three to five visual art classes each day. Curriculum and instruction includes art production in a variety of materials and technique appropriate to each grade level. Experimentation and exploration in creative production is coupled with a survey of art history, art criticism and cultural context. A strong candidate for the position of middle school art teacher will possess classroom management and organizational skills, along with assessment and scaffolding instruction strategies. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in the arts or education, although master’s degree is preferred, and have a minimum of two years’ teaching experience.
Other duties include homeroom advisory and hosting after school art club one day a week. In addition to taking part in off-campus field trips and a middle school interdisciplinary festival in March. The middle school art teacher is also responsible for mounting a spring exhibition of student art work.
