Development and Alumni Staff
Assistant Head for Marketing and Admissions, Assistant Head for Finance, Communications Office
Lead short and long-term strategies for successful fundraising of the annual fund, current and future capital campaigns, endowment, and the bequest society.
With the Head of School and Board, build annual Development and Alumni Office work plans, including a performance matrix to be reported monthly.
Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects on an ongoing basis, spending as much as 50% of your time traveling and visiting constituents to build relationships.
Coordinate the fundraising efforts of the Head of School, Development and Alumni team, Board of Trustees, and volunteer leaders with the ancillary gift prospects to achieve all fundraising targets
Foster a culture of philanthropy across the organization including parents, students, faculty, staff, trustees, and alumni.
Act as an advisor to the Head of School and member of the Senior Staff administrative team.
Collaborate with all who lead revenue garnering tasks including the Assistant Head for Finance, Assistant Head for Marketing and Admissions, Director of Summer Programs, and others
Supervise, evaluate, professionally develop and recruit Development and Alumni Department Staff
Conduct other duties as assigned by the Head of School
The Development Director is the chief institutional advancement and external relations officer. As their focus is major gifts, they must have demonstrable experience and confidence in making solicitations. The Director must also exhibit the ability to drive the development process from plan to close – including goal setting, budgeting, constituent relations, prospect management and stewardship.
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or equivalent. (M.A. preferable.) Minimum of seven to ten years’ experience in development work including leadership of a campaign and experience with major donors, foundations, and corporations.
Track record of effective fundraising through cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and leadership gifts, and meeting annual fundraising targets.
Strong and creative entrepreneurial sense - ability to collaboratively and strategically recognize opportunities, identify high return activities, and prioritize them to attain goals.
Outstanding interpersonal, managerial, organizational, and problem solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting and listening.
Strong commitment to The Storm King School’s mission.
Understanding of the independent school and boarding school philanthropic landscape.
Ability to lead and work collaboratively; experience in different roles in a development office and an understanding of Raiser’s Edge software preferred.
