Milton Academy, established in 1798, is an independent coeducational national boarding and day school, serving 1,000 students in grades K-12 on a 125 acre campus eight miles south of Boston.
Milton Academy seeks a Director of Student Multicultural Programming for a position beginning in July 2017.
The Director of Student Multicultural Programming will work to maintain and develop student life programs that support the Upper School’s multicultural population and its families. This role will include both episodic and long-term initiatives, and requires a student-centered outlook and set of experiences. The director’s work includes oversight and direction of affinity and culture clubs, administration of the Transition program for new students of color, service as liaison for sending prep programs, teaching within the Affective Education program, and other department initiatives; providing diversity leadership in the areas of race, religion, socio-economic class, and sexual orientation; facilitating communication among upper school students, affinity groups, families and the School’s resources.
The Director of Student Multicultural Programs reports to the K–12 Director of Multiculturalism and Community Development and works closely with the Dean of Students office, the Director of Student Activities, the K-8 Director of Multiculturalism and Community Development, dormitory house heads, class deans, health center staff, and the School’s affinity clubs.
Qualified applicants will hold a Bachelor’s degree and have prior experience with diversity, inclusion, and social justice initiatives. The ability to interact with people of all backgrounds and at all levels within a school community is essential. Prior youth development or teaching experience is required. Event planning or management experience is preferred. Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to education and interest in understanding the unique opportunities and challenges of diversity work within a boarding school.
