Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy (FSHA), a Catholic, Dominican, independent, college preparatory high school for young women, is seeking a full-time integrated science, chemistry or physics teacher to teach honors chemistry and physics. Successful candidates must prioritize safety in the lab, complete a safety certification and be willing to teach using active-learning modalities, such as Process Oriented Guiding Inquiry Learning (POGIL) and/or inquiry based labs or case studies. The teacher must be willing to follow a pre-defined curriculum in their first year. A successful candidate will be ready to consider emerging technologies to enhance learning and student engagement. We are looking for a teacher who is open and willing to participate in the school community outside the classroom and is willing to support the mission of the school. As a day/boarding school, FSHA may offer housing to candidates who are a good fit for our residential life program.
FSHA educators are members of a dynamic learning environment. They are engaged in a 1:1 MacBook program, curriculum/ programming redesign and mapping, and teacher-driven professional learning communities. In addition to developing and delivering an intentionally designed curriculum dedicated to teaching and learning in a supportive and collegial atmosphere, our faculty shares out on best practices and instructional technology strategies via blogs, small group learning sessions, and visits to each other’s classrooms.
BA or BS in Chemistry or Physics or related discipline required
Minimum 1 year high school teaching experience.
Experience with innovative teaching strategies; such as POGIL, inquiry labs and/or case studies.
Able and eager to collaborate with colleagues
Experience with instructional technology
Excellent classroom management, communication and organization skills
Ability to connect with parents, students, and colleagues in a professional way
Able to convey a love of science and obtain positive results
