Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker school with campuses in Bethesda, MD, and Washington, DC, seeks an experienced Creative Director/Graphic Designer for its Communications Department.
The Creative Director/Graphic Designer reports to the Director of Communications on the DC campus and collaborates with other members of the department, as well as with colleagues in Institutional Advancement, Admissions, and other School divisions. She/he is responsible for layout, design, and production of all the School’s print and digital materials, including directories, handbooks, calendars, newsletters, brochures, posters, flyers, infographics, and the Alumni Magazine. The Creative Director/Graphic Designer manages the School’s photography and videography needs, including hiring and supervising photographers and videographers, managing photo/video shoots, organizing and maintaining a vast photo library, selecting and editing photos, photographing School events, and processing files. She/he also implements and maintains brand standards consistent with the School’s Quaker identity and values.
The successful candidate will possess outstanding design and layout skills, including expert knowledge of and extensive experience with print design and production, as well as the ability to manage large and multifaceted projects. Experience with web design, including familiarity with CMS, is also required. Candidates must be detailed oriented, possess a keen sense of humor, and thrive in a lively, fast-paced work environment. An expert knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator, is required. Familiarity with InCopy and FinalCut is also desirable.
A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communication, art, or a similar field, with at least five to seven years of relevant professional experience, is required (master’s preferred).
