The art teacher is a member of the school’s art department and reports to the three division heads. This full time 10-month position is responsible for working with faculty and staff to support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. The ideal candidate will have a strongbackground in the visual arts and be skilled in teaching students to work with a variety of two and three-dimensional materials. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team member who is self-directed, well-organized; has a good sense of humor; a love of the visual arts; and a passion for teaching the visual arts to elementary and middle school-aged children.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach multiple sections of art in Grades 2-8
Serve as an Upper Division Advisor
Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, weekly school duties, and activities
Ensure that respect for diversity, equity and inclusion is emphasized as a core value of the School, a shared responsibility in partnership with the school community and the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, in particular
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrate deep understanding of the relationship between curriculum, subject matter, and child development
Implements creative and innovative curriculum and instruction
Fosters a classroom environment where students feels comfortable to take risks, make mistakes and be curious
Experience with drawing, painting, and sculpture and rudimentary woodworking skills desirable
Works in partnership with students and their families
Strong interpersonal skills with students and adults - patience, flexibility and empathy
Strong communication skills - written and oral
Experience working in diverse community
Bachelor’s Degree required
Master’s Degree preferred
3-5 years of teaching required
Elementary and middle school teaching experience preferred
