Friends Select School seeks a full-time Upper School History & Religious Studies teacher to start in September 2017. This unique position involves teaching five courses, including two semester-long classes for 9th and 10th graders that focus on Quaker philosophy and practice, Philadelphia history, and peace and social justice, two semester-long senior electives that the teacher would play a substantial role in designing, and one section of eighth grade Conflict Resolution. Ideal candidates for this position would have a graduate degree (not required), 5+ years of teaching experience at the high school level, significant training and experience in Quaker practice, world religions, and United States history, and preferably some knowledge of the history and institutions of Philadelphia. Friends Select School is a coeducational, PreK-12 independent school in the cultural heart of Center City Philadelphia, right on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
