Glenelg Country School is seeking a full-time Humanities teacher for the 2017/2018 academic year beginning in August. The Upper School Humanities Department values an integrated approach to teaching history and literature. The 11th grade humanities class – called American Studies – is designed to develop strong reading, writing, thinking, and presentation skills through the study of American literature, history, and culture. Qualified candidates should have 2-3 years teaching experience, interest and experience in multi-disciplinary education, and the ability to connect with young people of various backgrounds and educational abilities. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, flexible, and eager to bring innovative ideas to their curriculum. The candidate must demonstrate an interest and ability to collaborate with other teachers in planning and execution of courses. The Humanities Department faculty typically teaches four or five sections, with two or three preps. In addition to teaching, the position includes serving as an academic advisor to a small group of students, and/or contributing to the community as a coach, club advisor, or member of a school committee.
