University School of Jackson is seeking a Founding Director of the USJ Learning Center for the 2017-2018 academic year. This is an incredible opportunity for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for helping students with learning differences.
Jobs duties and responsibilities include:
Develop the Learning Center at USJ from the ground up, to include a start-up budget.
Hire qualified instructors for the Learning Center that will serve USJ students in lower, middle, and upper school.
Develop the mission and vision of the Learning Center.
Support classroom teachers of Learning Center students in all academic areas.
Collaborate with grade level teachers to provide appropriate activities or suggest learning strategies for Learning Center students in the regular classroom
Monitor and facilitate classroom and testing accommodations provided to Learning Center students.
Act as caseload manager for students receiving Learning Center support, including developing and implementing a Student Action Plan, as well as scheduling and attending parent meetings regarding instructional objectives and/or placement decisions as needed, but no fewer than twice each academic year for each student on caseload.
Lead school-wide staff development activities to promote best practices for students with varied learning styles.
Participate in regularly-held internal meetings regarding student progress and placement.
Will serve as a member of the administrative team.
Reports directly to the Head of School.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualified candidates MUST have a background in or experience teaching students with learning needs. A thorough understanding of learning differences and experience providing appropriate individualized instruction is imperative. This position will require strong organizational skills, as well as flexibility and a willingness to collaborate as part of a team. Preference will be given to candidates with multisensory instruction or reading intervention experience and a Master’s Degree in Special Education.
