The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a full-time drama Designer, Tech Director/Instructor for the spring semester (January through the end of May) of 2018. Candidates should have extensive training in theatrical design and technical theater as well as experience teaching at the high school level. The person selected will teach 2 sections of Stagecraft and 1 of Drama Tech class. The Stagecraft classes are taught during the normal school day and are a fun mix of technical theater, design, and shop. The Drama Tech class meets after school and creates the design and tech for the spring musical, dance and music concerts. Teaching time increases as the production nears. This person will be expected to adapt to the existing Stagecraft curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the overall drama program. The salary is competitive. All faculty enjoy sharing a prepared lunch every day.
The College Prep Arts Department is unique, innovative and rigorous. We offer a variety of courses in the Visual, Musical, Vocal, Dance and Dramatic Arts. Student enrollment in our classes is kept low to maximize student participation and engagement. Students are required to take a minimum of two years of arts courses for graduation; the majority takes more. The Arts Department actively cultivates and enjoys a culture of innovative collaboration and collegiality among its members and students.
