The Duke University Talent Identification Program is hiring qualified individuals to work with academically talented students this summer. We’re looking for applicants ranging from college students to university professors, accomplished professionals across all fields, and registered nurses. Positions are available in both June and July, with length of employment varying depending on the program. Find available positions, locations, dates, and salaries or apply online at tip.duke.edu/employment. Duke TIP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping gifted students from all economic backgrounds reach their full academic potential.
Administrative staff ensure student health and safety, lead and support other staff members, and manage program logistics. In these roles, you must use your skills to effectively oversee daily operations, staff training, and parent communication to make sure everyone—both students and staff—has the best possible experience.
Residential staff focus on the social development of TIP students, a crucial component of the TIP experience. Residential staff will get involved as role models and help mentor a small, single-sex student group. You might also plan and deliver daily activities; join committees to plan term books, weekly dance themes, and large weekend events that build leadership and teamwork; and create an overall sense of community.
Instructional staff focus on the intellectual development of TIP students. You must apply your own knowledge to motivate and empower students so that they understand and embrace their full educational potential. When you work in an instructional position at one of our summer residential programs, you have the opportunity to help build and implement innovative curriculums, engage in discussions and other interactive learning techniques, coordinate field trips and other hands-on learning opportunities for your students, build expertise in your area of study, and share your passion for a particular academic discipline with engaged and motivated students.
Registered Nursing positions are also available at all of our sites.
Administrative applicants should have supervisory experience and demonstrate strong leadership ability, excellent organizational skills, a willingness to accept responsibility, and an ability to work cooperatively with others. We often hire individuals with school administrative or student affairs experience to these jobs, but we welcome applicants from corporate, medical, and other organizational backgrounds as well.
Residential applicants must be at least current college sophomores, though age 21 and over with a driver's license is preferred. You should be mature, exhibit good judgment, and be dedicated to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for students. Training in the social and emotional needs of gifted students is provided. These are good positions for education majors in college as well as individuals with experience working with youth.
Instructor applicants should be content experts on their field, either professionally or academically, with a demonstrated ability to inspire and engage younger students. We also have positions available for gifted educators with experience in grades 4-12.
Teaching Assistants must have completed at least two years of college by this summer and have a demonstrated mastery of a specific topic as well as a record of focused study in that area.
Registered Nursing candidates must be licensed to practice in the state where they are applying for a position.
Additional Salary Information: Salaries vary depending on position and experience. Room and board is provided for most positions. Please see https://tip.duke.edu/about/employment/salaries for details on salary and other compensation.
