The Branson School
The Branson School, a coeducational, college-preparatory day school of 320 students grades 9-12, is located in Marin County, California. Branson, established in 1920, prides itself on fostering nurturing relationships with students while maintaining high academic standards. The faculty values collaboration, professional development, reflection, and continual exploration of good teaching. Branson teachers work in a beautiful, well-resourced environment with dedicated students. The faculty is widely regarded as outstanding and there exists in the faculty community an admirable esprit de corps, a positive attitude about their students and their work, and a notable lack of cynicism.
Branson will be hiring a full-time Science teacher to begin work in August of 2017. This teacher will join a dynamic team to support the Physics 1 curriculum, which is based on the Modeling Instruction Program. The full teaching load for this position is three sections of Physics 1 plus one section of either Chemistry or Biology. Serious candidates must have an appreciation for and tolerance of the particular energy of freshmen.
Enthusiasm for collaboration with colleagues is essential as all members of the Science Department work on at least one curricular team. Branson values honest discourse among team members about the goals of courses, pedagogical approaches, and effective methods of assessment.
Branson recently completed a significant restructuring of our Science curriculum. Strong candidates will be excited about helping students pursue independent research, an essential component of our revised curriculum.
Two or three years of teaching experience is a plus, but we will give serious consideration to a recent graduate with strong academic credentials and a history of working with high school students.
Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest and resume to Karen Whitaker, Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs, and Kathy Soave, Science Department Chair, at Karen_whitaker@branson.org and Kathy_soave@branson.org.
