The Director of Nursing is the leader of the school’s nursing department and reports to the Assistant Head of School for Finance & Operations. This part time, 10-month position (8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Wednesdays and Fridays) is responsible for overseeing nursing practices and ensuring the nursing office meets the health care needs for the School’s diverse student population. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an enthusiasm for educating students, faculty and staff, and parents regarding matters of health, wellness, injury/illness prevention, and medical care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Demonstrate clinical competency in school nursing practice and oversee the health care for students, providing first aid care and medically prescribed support and/or services.
Assess students’ health and refer students to urgent care or emergency room, as necessary.
Be available to communicate by phone
and email with the School nurse regarding student health concerns.
Implement Federal, State and local health regulations.
Develop policies, procedures, and work standards for the School’s nursing office
Maintain confidential records and other relevant health data.
Manage the annual flu clinic for faculty and staff and seek opportunities to provide wellness initiatives on campus for faculty and staff.
Identify opportunities for coordination with faculty on student health curriculum.
Lead efforts to provide first aid and CPR training to Park employees and provide training for medication delegation to School leadership.
Actively participate on the Faculty & Staff Health & Safety Committee.
Participate in professional development opportunities to supplement knowledge that will enhance care delivered to students.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Awareness and appreciation of a culturally diverse community including racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, language and gender identity diversity.
Ability to maintain Electronic Medical Records.
Must be able to navigate a multi-building campus in all weather conditions.
Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing to employees, students, parents and medical professionals.
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, lift and stand for long periods of time.
At least 5 years experience as a licensed registered nurse is required, preferably working in Pediatrics or Adolescent medicine. License must be current and maintained.
A minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university is required.
Certification from the National Board of Certification of School Nurses is valued.
Prior experience working in a school environment is valued.
