The School Counselor supports the social and emotional health and overall well-being of students on campus. The School Counselor works closely with faculty and administration and works with the School Nurse on adult and student programs related to health and wellness. The Counselor collaborates daily with the Assistant Head of School, Dean of Students, and members of the Student Support Team to ensure that the health of the whole child is considered. The Counselor serves a key role in creating and sustaining an atmosphere of emotional wellness among students. The Counselor reports to the Assistant Head of School.
Provide regular counseling support sessions with students and families, as needed
Maintain a current and accurate referral database of mental health service providers; connect parents with outside therapeutic referrals as needed; and coordinate with outside providers working with students
Maintain accurate clinical notes regarding all students
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students and guardians through meaningful and frequent communications
Implement and teach wellness programming for students and teach select community education units on wellness and decision-making
Provide crisis management support Facilitate family dialogue during times of change, grief, and loss
Provide parental support and guidance related to child development as needed
Provide educational programs and training for parents, faculty, and staff
Meet regularly with the Nurse, Assistant Head of School, Dean of Students, Dean of Community and Multicultural Development, and Director of the Educational Resource Center to review the health and wellness of our student population
Member of the Student Support Team and participate in grade-level and student review meetings
Support faculty in their roles as advisors and teachers
Actively participate in the life of the School
Other duties as necessary
School certification, Master’s degree, and 3+ years of school experience preferred.
