The Upper School physics teacher is a charismatic adult who is committed to a student-centered, differentiated approach to student learning and achievement. This mentor-teacher is creative, hardworking, and experienced in teaching physics principles to students with a broad level of abilities. This position will require a teacher to continue the development of a newly implemented program requiring all of our students to take a physics class before graduation. This mentor-teacher will be a part of a department who finds strength in their collaboration and teamwork. Maclay teachers strive to be student advocates, demonstrate life-long learning, and are constantly seeking the best way to motivate peers and students by setting high expectations and leading by example. Pre-requisites for the job are a bachelor’s degree in the subject area, and a minimum of 5 years of successful teaching in a similar college preparatory institution. Maclay School is a private, independent, non-sectarian college preparatory school located on 100 beautiful acres in northeast Leon County, Florida, about ten miles north of the state capitol building. It is dedicated to providing a liberal arts education, enabling each student to develop the inherent ability to the fullest extent with a balance of discipline and freedom. A group of parents found...ed the school in 1968 naming it in memory of Alfred B. Maclay, Jr., a World War II veteran whose mother was a major benefactor. The 2016-17 school year will be the 49th year for Maclay, now under the leadership of James Milford who is in his third year as Head of School.
