The Greenwich Country Day School seeks a Student Support Learning Specialist to serve as a member of the Student Support Team, working specifically with students in grades 6-9 and faculty members serving those students.
Provide direct instruction to students in both Language Skills classes and Upper School Study Lab
Work with faculty to develop skills and strategies that support student learning
Provide resources to teachers that help accommodate student needs
Identify student needs and develop programs that support the academic experience of all students
Design, implement and monitor programs and accommodations that support student learning
Coordinate and manage the resources needed to support students: teachers, specialists, tutors
Help families access appropriate support for students both within and outside the school community
Serve as a communication link with students, parents, teachers, specialists and administrators
Work with Division Heads and faculty to make referrals for psychoeducational evaluations when appropriate
Interpret and communicate test results
Manage the administration of the standardized testing program
Minimum of 10-years of meaningful experience in a role(s) supporting specialized learning
Understanding of student learning styles and learning differences
Knowledge of techniques, programs and resources that support student learning
Excellent communication skills and ability to express ideas to students, teachers, parents and administrators
Leadership skills that facilitate the process of program development and support
Knowledge of Executive Function skills
Knowledge of adolescent growth and development
Ability to interpret results of psychoeducational testing
Ability to design, coordinate and implement learning plans
Ability to train classroom teachers in the development of instructional practices that support student learning
Ability to advocate for students and services that will help them become successful learners
Ability to work collaboratively with Upper School and Middle School colleagues and with the broader school community
Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree in the field of learning differences preferred
Classroom teaching experience preferred
Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of children - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor
