North Country School seeks a Director of Learning Skills, beginning July 1, 2017, to support a range of learners, particularly those with mild to moderate learning differences. The Director will oversee the Learning Skills Department, the students who are receiving tutorial support, as well as work with the wider school community. The Director of Learning Skills reports to the Assistant Head of School. This is a full-time administrative position; the individual will be an integral member of the leadership team.
The Director of Learning Skills will:
Refine the vision and goals of the current Learning Skills program.
Oversee classroom tutorials to support reading, writing, and executive functioning skills.
Provide professional development and education for all Learning Skills and non-Learning Skills faculty
Coordinate all testing, testing accommodations, and administer SSAT and CTP-IV standardized tests.
Maintain and communicate with faculty and parents regarding the educational plan for each student enrolled in the Learning Skills Program
Review the student's educational learning skills plan throughout the academic year and make changes as deemed necessary
Serve as a member of the administrative team, admissions committee and wellness committee
Engage in all aspects of school life and commit to being a fully integrated member of the school community
Show a passion overseeing a department while working closely with students with learning style differences
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Education and/ or significant experience in the field of Learning Differences. In addition they will have extensive experience working with students with varied learning styles, reading comprehension, and executive function.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to build trust, work collaboratively, and communicate proactively and effectively with parents and colleagues. In addition the candidate will have an engaging teaching style, a depth of familiarity with assisted technology, and be able to develop individualized learning plans for students.
