The primary responsibility for the position is overseeing, supporting, instructing and monitoring the success of students with learning needs.
Helios School is an innovative, independent school community for gifted children in grades K-8 in Sunnyvale, CA. We are seeking a flexible, high-caliber team-player to support classroom teachers and individual students and their families. We prefer an individual who has knowledge of gifted children and twice exceptional (2e) learning challenges.
An excellent candidate will:
Develop a relationship of mutual respect and kindness towards our students.
Have extensive training in learning disabilities and other forms of learning differences and provide intervention strategies that address social and emotional aspects that impact learning.
Support students to master foundational skills and develop strategies to compensate for any learning deficits or skills the child finds particularly challenging while recognizing abilities and strengths.
Conduct formal and informal assessment of academic skills and utilize specific and appropriate strategies.
Focus not only on remediation, but on building self-awareness to help students become more self-reliant, efficient, life-long learners.
Develop an individual intervention plan by collaborating with significant people comprising student’s learning team, including parents, school staff and support professionals.
Interpret reports, provide case management and coordinate services, goals and communication between learning team.
Familiarize team with assistive technologies and accommodations to support student learning at home and in the classroom.
Have a positive attitude with demonstrated professionalism, responsibility, and ethical practice.
At least 3 years related experience
MA in Education, Special Education or Educational Psychology or BA/BS in education plus educational therapy or resource specialist certificate/ educational specialist or special education teaching credential.
A strong understanding of gifted learners or willingness to learn.
Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills with children and adults.
